WR Rookie Watch

Most of these rookies went late in your draft or weren’t touched at all. Which of them are worth an add, or maybe even worth our flex?

Calvin Ridley - Atlanta Falcons

Ridley went as the WR46 in half-PPR formats, and if you played him in week 3, he probably single handedly gave you the W. He came down with an unbelievable 7 catches for 146 yards and 3 TDs. He was taken towards the end of drafts, just behind guys like Jordy Nelson, Pierre Garcon, Kelvin Benjamin, and Devante Parker. Lining up opposite of Julio Jones gives him a huge advantage, as Julio will consume coverage and give him open looks. With a supremely leaky defense, Matt Ryan is going to have to ball out in order to keep up with opposing offenses. Ridley has massive upside and should be flexed in all decent match ups moving forward.

DJ Moore - Carolina Panthers

Hype man, DJ Moore, was taken just behind Ridley in half-PPR formats but has not quite had the same boltrous start. In the first three weeks, he’s caught 2 of 4 targets for 54 yards and a TD. He saw the field on 25% of offensive snaps in weeks 1 and 2, up to 49% week three, so if the trend can continue, so will his opportunity to catch passes. With the injury to Greg Olsen, one would have hoped that Moore would have seen a percentage of his targets, but that just hasn’t come to fruition. Drop him - you can find better on the waiver wire. Perhaps towards the halfway mark we’ll see his presence on the field increase.

Courtland Sutton - Denver Broncos

Through three weeks, his snap count averages 87% but we haven’t seen much production or rapport with Keenum. He has been making his way down the field though, totaling 5 for 91 yards on the season. If you can acquire him in dynasty formats, DO IT. Sanders and Thomas are still looking like they’ve got some miles left on the tires, but should one of them go down due to injury, Sutton would fill the roll well. Snag him in dynasty now if you can, while people might be sleeping on his training camp buzz.

Christian Kirk - Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals brought in Josh Rosen last week for the last drive of the game, and suddenly, there was some hope for the skill positions there in Arizona. Rosen ended on an interception, but after he was officially named the starter for week 4, Kirk should officially be a contender for a speculative add in deeper leagues. He saw 74% of snaps last week and posted 7 catches for 90 yards. He remains the WR3 behind Williams, but might be a steal on waivers if he shows any sort of rapport with Rosen.

Antonio Callaway - Cleveland Browns

Callaway has been peppered with targets through three games, although has had a couple of drops on dime passes. He’s an every down player, and Josh Gordon’s recent trade to the Patriots will provide him with plenty of opportunity, especially under rookie Baker Mayfield. He came down with a beautiful 47 yard TD from Tyrod Taylor in week 2 where he topped 21.48 mph, the 4th fastest ball carrier speed so far in the 2018 season. Add him now while he’s available in 69% leagues, but unless you’ve seen complete demolition to your team through injury, leave him on the bench until we can glimpse his rapport with Mayfield.
